Soft tissue injury of that nature should be rested for a month. After that, return to a gentler form of your preferred exercise and one that neither involves full limb extension, nor high loads.
You'll have lost some fitness anyway, so no point trying to return to your previous levels of training as you won't be fit enough to do so.
Cycling or swimming would be less risky than jumping straight back into running or football, for example.
After engaging in a trial activity, rest for 24 hours to see if any symptoms occur. If not, gradually get back to previous levels over a period 2-3 times longer than the time you took off injured.
I'd normally recommend our Atrogel® for pain but I wouldn't want you to mask any further damage. Let the sensations guide your return to fitness.
Best wishes
Earle
