While we try to encourage people to engage in activity, as it can reduce muscular pain, I'd say the worst aspect of fibromyalgia must be the emotional aspect which can result from the condition impacting on some of the more enjoyable things people previously practised.
From an emotional despondency, it is difficult to find the will to try and hence a diminishing social life, weight gain and increased pain.
Pain perception is a function of mood though, so finding the resolve to 'get out there' is the most important battle in any illness.
