You haven't said which side or whether the affected area is swollen or warm but you may wish to apply some Atrogel® 2-4 times a day for some speedy relief from the immediate symptoms and take some Atrosan® tablets if the pain has been with you for a few weeks.
Has a doctor had the opportunity to examine your knee?
The reason I ask is that wear and tear, rheumatoid arthritis and gout can all cause knee pain, as can more mechanical causes such as foot pronation (rolling), heels etc. It would be very useful to find the cause but the recommendations above should help in the meantime.
