I don't know if anyone has investigated if there is a hereditary element or not but as fibromyalgia is associated with low serotonin and poor circulation, there is every possibility.
However, genetics are just a part of our overall susceptibility to disease, with lifestyle, diet and character the other influences.
There are 3 of the 'others' against the genetic element, so we can all beat our genes even if we can't change them.
People do recover from fibromyalgia but not simply by taking medicines for the symptoms, whether conventional or natural.
A more comprehensive approach is needed in order to identify and address the most aggravating factors.
So, a diet low in magnesium, poor sleep, low mood or poor circulation would all be common things to address in people with fibromyalgia.
Many people see disease as the pain they suffer, whereas that is just an outcome.
You can find lots of help and advice on our fibromyalgia pages.
Hope this is helpful.
Best wishes
