Hello,
In cases of hormonal acne, the contraceptive pill will sometimes be recommended by doctors. Normally, the combined pill is suggested here as this contains a synthetic combination of oestrogen and progesterone which can work to decrease the circulation of androgens, the male hormones that can contribute to an acne outbreak.
However, everyone is different and what works for one individual isn’t guaranteed to help another. You may have to try several different types of contraceptive pill before you find the one that works for you. Also, if your acne is hormonal, it does imply that there is possibly an imbalance here that needs to be investigated.
You also have to consider that acne isn’t always related to your hormones. Often, external factors such as diet and stress can play a role and the contraceptive pill isn’t going to help improve these areas. Whether or not you opt for the pill is entirely up to you but it’s always worth considering other areas of your health first, just to tick them off the list.
I hope this information helps. If you have any more questions just let me know.
Best wishes,
Felicity
