What is Neem Cream?

Neem oil comes from the seed of the tropical Neem tree. It has a long history of use in Ayurvedic medicine for a wide variety of conditions, from the treatment of leprosy, malaria and TB, to helping with less serious conditions such as acne.

The main use of Neem oil today, however, is in cosmetics such as soaps, creams, hair lotions and oils, as well as an insect repellent. Its favoured use in skincare products is due to its high content of fatty acids and other nutrients and ingredients that are extremely beneficial to the skin.

Our Neem Cream is made from the tincture of Neem leaf. The extraction method is known as alcoholic extraction and is used for most of the A.Vogel herbal remedies, including our well-known Echinaforce. It helps us to ensure that all the beneficial properties of Neem leaf are extracted and used for our Neem Cream.

The fresh, active plant extracts help to bring you a luxurious cream, which is 100% vegetarian and not tested on animals.

To understand how Neem Cream may benefit those who suffer from eczema, we must look at the following points:

1. What is Neem Cream indicated for?
2. How can Neem Cream benefit eczema sufferers?
3. Is Neem Cream backed by scientific research?

Read on to find out more about the benefits of using Neem Cream.

1. What is Neem Cream indicated for?

Neem Cream has traditionally been used for troubled areas of skin, helping to calm irritation and soothe red, sensitive patches.

It can also be beneficial for those who struggle with very dry skin, or for areas which are sore, itchy and bumpy and may have flared up after unknown allergies such as an over-reaction to the sun or insect bites. The application of Neem Cream can soothe and bring comfort to these areas, helping the skin recover, as well as provide relief to those prone to eczema.

2. How can Neem Cream benefit eczema sufferers?

Herbal remedies are an effective alternative to conventional medicines, particularly if you are wishing to avoid some of the associated side effects of prescribed medication.

This may be particularly important for eczema sufferers. Steroid creams are often prescribed as a treatment for this but these can come with nasty side effects such as stinging and burning and, commonly, thinning of the skin which can greatly worsen symptoms if the eczema returns.

As previously mentioned, Neem is a very valuable plant when it comes to treating skin conditions. The properties of the plant make it wonderful at relieving any discomfort or itchiness associated with dry, sensitive skin and it works quickly and effectively to ease any inflammation or pain – making it a perfect option for eczema-prone skin. As well as this, it is not associated with any unpleasant side effects.

Neem Cream can be applied directly to the affected area. It is important to keep in mind though, that it is not suitable for those with nut allergies or pregnant women.

Our Neem range also includes Neem Shampoo, which contains extracts of neem leaves and helps soothe dry, irritated and flaky scalps, as well as Neem Insect Repellent, which contains an extract of Neem seed oil. Suitable for those sensitive to conventional insect repellents, it helps repel insects such as mosquitoes, flies and midges.

My Self-Care Tip: The power of Neem for treating eczema

There are numerous treatments out there for eczema; however, many of these often have nasty side effects. In this video, I discuss the power of Neem cream for treating eczema.

3. Is Neem Cream backed by scientific research?

Although research on Neem Cream is quite limited, the long history of Neem oil used as a treatment for various conditions highlights its healing factors well.

One study found that neem oil may be a promising agent to treat signs of aging such as thinning of the skin, dryness, and wrinkles.1 Another study looked at the effect of Neem oil on post-surgical wounds and found it to be beneficial to the healing process.2

Furthermore, one study found Neem oil to be a good treatment for acne, and one that could be used for a long time with no apparent side effects.3

Further research would allow for a more in depth look at the effect of Neem Cream on skin conditions, and other factors such as moles, warts, and collagen productions
