You can miss a period for a number of reasons; firstly I would suggest you take a pregnancy if you suspect you might be pregnant. However, a whole number of other causes such as stress, nutrient status or changes in body weight or exercise regimes can also have an effect on your period. Another possibility is that you are approaching the menopause.
On average in the UK women approach the menopause between the ages of 45 and 55 years old. Changing periods are thought to be one of the first signs of menopause - this means you can miss them completely or when they do come they are heavier, lighter, irregular – or any combination of these.
If you are worried you could also pay a visit to your doctor. They can test your hormone levels which can hopefully help to give you a better idea of what might be going on.
