Why is World Menopause Day important?

Not only is it a great way to raise awareness of the advice, support and education available to you, it’s also good to know you are not alone! You may feel unsure about what is happening to you and your family can’t understand it either, but believe me, there are plenty of women out there who are either going through it at the moment or have already done so and come out the other side.

Days such as World Menopause Day are great for highlighting this, encouraging women to talk openly about it and also to seek support and advice about the menopause, not just on World Menopause Day but every day.

My menopause story

When I was going through the menopause, the thing that frustrated me the most was the lack of information available to me or finding that the information given was too confusing or technical for me to understand.

They say ‘knowledge is power’ so I made it my mission to read as much as I could about the menopause and learn about the different types of symptoms, self care tips, helpful remedies available. It is this knowledge, my own personal experience, as well as the experience I have gained as a Helpline advisor for A.Vogel which allows me to help other women find the information they need.

I am very proud to have helped create A.Vogel Talks Menopause, which not only provides a source of easy-to-understand information about the menopause, its symptoms and treatments, but also offers a great support feature. It enables women to put their menopause questions to me, read questions from other women, follow my journey and personal advice via my blog and also read about other real women’s stories.

Your menopause questions

I was astounded and again very proud to be told that in the last year I have answered over 18,000 menopause questions (phew that a lot of chats about the menopause!). The feedback I receive daily from menopausal women all over the world makes me realise how important it is for women to have a place like the Menopause Health Hub to ask questions and receive support.

I am so glad to know that I am helping women, but they are actually helping me too! The great thing about this Hub is that it evolves every day due to the nature of the questions I am asked. They inspire me to write blog posts, as well as add new information and sections to the health hub, all of which helps me give menopausal women the best support possible.

Getting through the menopause

My one big tip for getting through the menopause is to TALK ABOUT IT! Don’t go through the menopause in silence. If you take away anything from World Menopause Day let it be this – you are not alone! Remember I’m more than happy to answer any menopause questions you may have.

Menopause is something that affects all women, all over the world, at some point in their life. Don’t be afraid to talk to friends and family about it, especially women around the same age as you or older. It’s amazing what you will learn from each other. Menopause has been considered a rather taboo subject for years but the more we talk about it openly or seek support, the more this barrier will be broken down. If you don’t feel you can talk to your family or friends, remember you can talk to me, I’m here to help.

For World Menopause Day I thought it would be nice to share some of the comments and feedback I have received from women all over the world over the past year. I am very proud of how much I have helped or of just being there to listen and reassure women when required.

Your feedback

“I found your advice helpful and insightful. It also made me realise I wasn’t alone in this situation, and knowing this made me much more comfortable about seeing my own doctor about the many symptoms I have. Thank you!”

“As I move through menopause and experience different things, it is great to read your advice and know what to do to find relief.”

“Hi Eileen, thank you so much for the information it  was so helpful. I really thought there was something seriously wrong with me and you have put my mind at rest.”

“You were just what I needed to calm my reeling mind. Thank you for your response!”

Did you know?

You won’t get the menopause the minute you turn 50! The average starting age is actually between 45 and 55 and it can often depend on a number of factors including hereditary, weight and health, however every single woman will have an individual menopause.
