Itchy skin during menopause

Does your skin feel itchy during menopause? Let me explain why this happens and what can help.

As oestrogen levels drop during menopause, your skin starts to lose collagen and natural oils, making it thinner and drier. This dryness often leads to itchiness, and hormonal changes can also increase sensitivity, making your skin more reactive.

Another reason could be histamine! Falling oestrogen levels can cause your body to release more histamine, a compound that triggers itching and inflammation.

And it might not present as itching – sometimes it even feels like something is crawling under your skin, it’s so unpleasant!

So, what can you do?

First, focus on hydration—drink plenty of water and use a good natural moisturiser. Eating foods rich in healthy fats, like avocados and nuts, can also support your skin from the inside out.

For herbal support, Stinging Nettle drops are fantastic. Nettle, which you are probably familiar with due to its itchy sting, is rich in nutrients and has natural antihistamine properties, which can calm that itchy, irritated feeling and support your skin health.
