60 seconds in menopause video transcript:

So, what makes sweet cravings increase in perimenopause? Now, this is really interesting because it's not simple. Changes in hormones during perimenopause affect how well sugar levels and insulin are essentially regulated. Leptin levels can get lower, and that affects how satisfied we feel after eating.

Also, PMS symptoms can worsen in perimenopause. So, your sugar cravings can get way more intense that week before your period.

The changes in our hormone levels can affect our gut microbiome, which influences mood and the nervous system. So, that can play a key role in sugar cravings and metabolism too. Poor sleep quality is really common in perimenopause, and that's associated with the consumption of up to 385 more calories a day.

The good news is you can control some of this by cutting down on things like glasses of wine and chocolate bars that cause the sugar levels to spike and then drop because this is really one of the driving forces behind the sugar cravings.

The best way of doing this is to just eat sensible meals regularly, and get some good quality sleep, especially in that week before your period and a little bit of Molkosan Fruit Digestion might help support the gut.
