Why is perimenopause thinning my eyebrows?

Eyebrow thinning is common in perimenopause as we get older because oestrogen plays a role in the hair growth cycles, so fluctuating or falling levels can impact hair thickness and eyebrows.

What can help?

Plant oestrogens can be beneficial. The Mediterranean diet of fresh fish, whole grains, good oils, and lots of veg is rich in phytoestrogens and protein. You could try a supplement that contains soy isoflavones (a source of phytoestrogens). Just make sure it's fermented. Watch your protein levels, and you want to increase nutrients and minerals like zinc to maintain and support hair growth. Now, Perimenopause Balance Multi-nutrient drink will give you zinc, magnesium, potassium, calcium and vitamin D.

Signs of an underlying condition

Thinning eyebrows are also associated with thyroid conditions, which affect metabolism and energy production. So, if you're experiencing extreme fatigue alongside eyebrow loss, especially if it's on those outer edges, please ask your GP to rule this out with a simple blood test.
