Perimenopause – things to be aware of
Perimenopause is being normalised finally, and we’re finding out how to look after ourselves and how to advocate for our health and our well-being. Now, despite this and because perimenopause symptoms can be so varied in manifestation and severity it can be difficult to figure out if it's normal perimenopause, a terrible perimenopause, or a big red flag for some other health reason.
What are some of the key red flags?
I would recommend that you consult your GP or other qualified medical practitioner if…
- You are very young - in your twenties and thirties or even your early forties and you're experiencing perimenopause symptoms.
- You have had changes in mood or anxiety that are interfering with your work or damaging your relationships.
- You are bleeding heavily, flooding, having to use both a tampon and a pad together, or having periods that lasted more than seven days.
In general, if you have a symptom that's really affecting your quality of life, then you should get checked out by an insured, qualified medical practitioner.
Extra tip: I know it isn’t always easy to see a doctor, but please persist in trying to get an appointment to discuss any of these red flags or any other issues you are having that you need help with.
