Question? Does perimenopause cause painful nipples?
Answer: In earlier stages of perimenopause, oestrogen can become quite dominant or it can fluctuate quite a bit, and spikes can cause breast tenderness and painful nipples, especially before a period.
If you are not on hormonal contraceptives, Agnus castus can be a really useful PMS herb.

Perimenopause can also bring changes to breast size, and you might find that your bra no longer fits you properly anymore. Obviously, this is going to cause chafing or squeezing, which can cause nipple soreness or breast pain. A bra fitting service is a really good perimenopause wellness check.
Breast and nipple tenderness can also be a side effect of hormonal medication. So it’s good to rule this out if that's an issue.
Finally, skin can get a little bit dry and sensitive in perimenopause, so you might need to just protect your nipples. Wear soft, smooth clothing. Moisturise your skin if it's dry.
Just watch out for abnormal bumps, signs of infection, or inflammation on the nipples, and do get these checked out by your GP.
