Are swollen ankles a symptom of perimenopause and menopause?

Are swollen ankles a symptom of perimenopause and menopause? Yes, they certainly are. You may also find you’re getting swollen hands as well. It's very often due to hormonal changes affecting your circulation, but it can also be due to dehydration. It can be the fact that you're sitting about maybe you're too tired to exercise.

What can help?

So, the great thing here is loads of water, plain water, every day. Do a brisk 15-minute walk every day too, because that can make all the difference. Put your feet up for half an hour every day as well just to relieve the pressure. And you can also try horse chestnut gel, which can be very soothing and cooling.

When to see your doctor

If these don't help quite quickly, then please do see your doctor. Because swollen ankles can also indicate other health issues such as high blood pressure.
