In my naturopathic clinic, these are my top recommended teas
These are five herbal teas I often recommend to my clients going through perimenopause. Each one supports your body in a different way. When I see women in clinic it is always an individualised recommendation but these are 5 great teas to get you started if you want to try some herbs to help your perimenopause journey.
1. Nettle Tea
Probably the tea I recommend most in clinic, Nettle is a wonderful nutritive herb. If you are bleeding heavily or flooding, nettle can help replenish lost minerals and support iron levels. And it is great for any skin issues and those mystery rashes that often pop up in menopause.
2. Golden Rod Tea
This is a fantastic tea if you're dealing with fluid retention or puffiness, which can happen as hormones fluctuate. Goldenrod helps support kidney function and encourages gentle detoxification, keeping everything flowing properly.
3. Chamomile Tea
Perimenopause can bring a lot of stress, mood swings, and even trouble sleeping. Chamomile is a wonderful herb for calming the nervous system, reducing anxiety, and promoting restful sleep. Plus, it helps soothe digestive issues, which can flare up when you're stressed, and can also get worse in perimenopause.
4. Peppermint Tea
Speaking of digestive issues - if bloating, sluggish digestion, or acid reflux are bothering you, peppermint is a great choice. It relaxes the muscles of the digestive tract, helps with gas, and can even ease nausea. Many of my clients find it helps them feel lighter and more comfortable after meals.
5. Sage Tea
This is one of my go-to herbs for hot flushes and night sweats! Sage has natural cooling properties and can help balance temperature fluctuations. It’s also great for brain fog and memory, which can sometimes be affected during perimenopause. Some research does suggest that it is best used fresh so, if you grow sage in your garden, you can pick some leaves and make tea from the fresh herbs – or if hot flushes are a huge issue for you try tablets or drops made from fresh sage – like Menoforce Sage tablets or Menosan.
Perimenopause symptoms don’t have to take over your life—small lifestyle swaps and herbal medicine can make a big difference! Let me know if you’d like more herbal tips.
