I'm not sure if I am going through the menopause because my symptoms don't seem very similar to others that I have read about. I have not had a period for 2 months and I've started to get a lot of acne. I'm losing weight, and I used to get a hot flush in the evening but that's not happened for a while now. I went to my dentist and they asked if I was ill as my tongue was very smooth at the tip. Can you help me?

It certainly doesn't sound like a classical menopause.

It sounds more like a wobbly thyroid to me, but that's just a guess and you will need to get your doctor to check it out.

If your thyroid test comes back as OK, it doesn't necessarily mean that there is nothing wrong with the thyroid - the tests only catch really severe problems.

So your doctor should keep on investigating - don't be put off with, 'it's just the menopause', because it is quite unlikely to be.
