The mouth is one of our mucous membranes in the body, just like the vagina, the digestive tract, the bladder, the lungs, and the eyes.
Falling oestrogen levels in the menopause can affect the mucus membranes, causing dryness, which can cause you to experience a dry, sore or sticky mouth. You might also experience increased thirst a dry, sore tongue, dry or cracked lips and you might find that you have trouble speaking.
Mucous membranes need a lot of water in order to stay moist. So, drinking plenty of water is one of the first things I always recommend.
You may find Sea Buckthorn Oil Capsules (just Google for more info) helpful for this, and adding in a fermented soya supplement can help to gently raise and balance oestrogen. You can take both of these together.
It is also a good idea to check with your dentist, as blocked salivary glands may be a contributory factor.
