Changing periods are often one of the first signs that you are approaching the menopause and you are in the average age range, 45-55, so it is possible. Periods at this point can vary between heavy and light, on time, late, early, missing, long or short! However, although bleeding nearly every day, even if it is light, is also common it is not good for you and can eventually cause anaemia which, in turn can cause fatigue, low mood, sleep problems so it is best to check with your doctor. They may also be able to test your hormone levels and that will give you a better idea of what is happening. Itchy skin is common as well and you may find nettle tea and a liver tonic helpful for this. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water as dehydration can make symptoms worse.
