I’m sorry to hear that you have been unwell.
Most dry coughs do not indicate the presence of a serious health condition. However, if you are a smoker, or if you have a family history of chest or lung complaints, then your dry cough should be taken a bit more seriously.
The majority of dry coughs are caused by a viral infection and these usually resolve well within 10 days. As your cough has lingered a bit longer, you are right to ask the question and although it will unlikely to be related to an underlying health problem, only your doctor will be able to make this judgement.
If the diagnosis is indeed a viral infection, then you might wish to consider the use of Echinacea which will help improve your immune function and reduce symptoms.
Dry coughs can also be related to allergies or asthma. This is more likely if you have a family history of such complaints and if the cough is worse during physical exertion or if it wakes you up in the middle of the night.
I hope that this information is helpful to you and that you make a speedy recovery.
