Hayfever is a type of allergy known as allergic rhinitis – basically, this means an allergy affecting the nasal passages, as opposed to an allergy that is expressed on the skin, digestive system or other part of the body.
Pollen from trees, flowers and other plants give rise to allergic rhinitis we call hayfever and this is more prevalent in the spring and summer months.
During winter, you might suffer from allergic rhinitis as a result of other allergies such as animal dander, house dust and other allergens in your house, leading to hayfever-like symptoms.
This is the reason why some people can have ‘hayfever’ during winter months you don’t expect pollen levels to be high in the UK.
