The most likely cause is pollen irritating the sensitive tissues at the back of your throat. The body has an automatic reaction to clear the irritant through coughing.
Hayfever coughs can also be linked to a problem called the postnasal drip. When pollen irritates the nasal passages, more mucus is produced to trap and wash out the allergen. The can build up and then drip down the throat. This is very irritating and can give rise to a cough.
You can find more information on hayfever and coughing here.
To ease the problem you could try our Cough Spray or, if you experience other symptoms like sneezing and a sore throat, it may be helpful to try our Pollinosan Hayfever Tablets. I'd also recommend you drink plenty of water to help rinse the throat of allergens. Some people find hot water mixed with lemon and honey is also quite comforting.
