If your varicose veins are particularly painful, it can help to shower or bathe them in some cold water. This causes the blood vessels to shrink and, in turn, may reduce swelling and discomfort.
Other tips that might help include:
- Wearing compression socks
- Doing some gentle exercise
- Keeping legs elevated when sitting down (if this is, indeed, where your varicose veins are concentrated)
- Trying a herbal remedy such as Venagel
