There are a few things you can do to treat congestion. Firstly, diet can have a big impact on the severity of the problem as foods high in histamine may worsen it - such foods include alcohol, caffeine, walnuts, smoked meats and cashew nuts. Also, milk-based products can also make mucus thicker and will therefore worsen the problem further.
So, to help your symptoms it’s best to opt for foods low in histamine such as fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh meat and fish and herbal teas.
Steam is also beneficial for congestion as it contains heat and moisture which loosens mucus to make it flow easier from the nose. This means lots of warm baths, hot (caffeine-free) drinks and hot showers may be useful. You could also try inhaling steam by placing your face over a bowl of steaming hot water (being careful not to burn yourself) and breath in gently.
You may also find it useful to try our Pollinosan Nasal Spray which cleanses the nose of allergens to make it feel more comfortable.
