Why going a walk on your lunch can be so beneficial
Did you know the habit of adding a walk to your day, could help both your physical and mental health? Here are the reasons why:
- Mood boosting (add some music in to maximize this further - hello endorphins!)
- Stress relief – time in nature is beneficial, plus, this means less time on screens
- Sunlight – When the sun is high in the sky, this means there is potential to manufacture vitamin D through your skin. When the sun is low in the sky, this means red light waves are more prominent, which can have benefits for mood, as well as your skin.
- Steps – daily steps are a must, since these are good for optimal body composition (maintaining muscle muss and energy expenditure) and metabolism - using your food and stores for energy
- Exercising outdoors is also good for your gut health due to the exposure to naturally occurring bacteria, plus from a physical, motility point of view.
I'm trying to find little areas of nature close to my home and keep the habit regular - sunshine always gives me a boost, but I'm also finding I'm feeling suitable accomplished after braving wilder conditions such as the wind or rain. Join me?
