Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland that affects around 50% of men in the UK aged over the age of 50. Many men are unaware of what their prostate gland is, or that the symptoms they experience (such as the need to urinate more frequently) are a sign of an enlarged prostate, and so any issues are often dismissed as a sign of getting older.
